Desinfection techniques for Artemia cysts

A minimum treatment consists of a 30-min soak of the cysts in a 200-ppm hypochlorite solution (fresh or seawater) prior to incubation for hatching. This treatment, however, may not kill germs present in the alveolar and cortical layer of the outer shell. Complete sterilization can be achieved through cyst decapsulation (Dhont et al.,1993).
