WORLD TILAPIA ASSOCIATION - UPDATE

The purpose of this Association is to organize and improve communications between all elements of the tilapia industry from the small, medium, and larger growers, scientist, processors & distributors, government agencies, and support industries. These communications are of course already in progress and are steadily being refined and improved, but will, I believe, be vastly accelerated by the World Tilapia Association. This group is now being formed and organized on the World Wide Web.

I am making available a web site devoted to the organization of the World Tilapia Association and I would like volunteers from various parts of the industry in various countries volunteer to provide support to these efforts since no one person can come anywhere near accomplishing a task of this magnitude. We now have ten volunteers in different countries and locations who are willing to handle the process involved in local distribution and assimilation of newsletter material including translations to native languages both ways.

We have put together a team to produce an international Newsletter to be emailed periodically as information is provided.

Their are several areas of most immediate importance. One is, more

volunteers are needed from persons from each country with Internet capacity who are willing and able to organize tilapia growers and industry in their locations and can speak to them and for them in the coming period of bringing this group together as a viable unit.

A second area is the area of creating general industry support for the formation of this Association from suppliers to the industry, such as feed companies, pharmaceutical companies, publications, hardware suppliers, hatcheries and others. This support can be in the form of both financial donations to pay for the various task associated with communications, clerical, and other organizational cost.

Anyone willing to help and or join the World Tilapia Association, please send your questions to Mike Sipe at mikesipe@aol.com.
