Some of the long-term strategies discussed at the 1996 conference in Iloilo City (the Philippines) include: 1) ensuring spawner supply by accelerating the pond broodstock program; 2) improving reproductive performance through genetic selection, nutrition and hormone control; 3) improvement of pond yield through environmental manipulation; and 4) maintaining ecological balance in ponds and hatcheries through the use of environment-friendly methods
