QUESTION:
I was wondering if brewer's yeast can be used instead of baker's yeast in feeding rotifers? The rotifers are being fed to Amphiprion sp. larvae. I want to add that the rotifers are fed microalgae and Selco prior to being fed to the larvae. I guess my question is, can the brewer's yeast be used as a sustainable diet for the rotifers until the rotifers are enriched with the algae and Selco?

COMMENTS 1:
I can answer your question directly but wonder why you are looking for a different diet. I have found that rotifers do best on a mixture of microalgae and Culture Selco (not the regular Selco or Super Selco which are for enrichment).

I have never used brewer's yeast, but know that it works and that you can keep rotifers on it for a few days.

Thank you for responding to my question. Yes, I know the brewers yeast works, as a matter of fact I have kept my population going for the past six months on it. My only concern was whether or not it was as good for the rotifers, hence the larvae, as bakers yeast was. It would appear from most responses I have received that I should be using Selco products and microalgae only.

Certainly Culture Selco is a much better choice if you really want to culture rotifers.
