BIG SHRIMP FARMS IN SUMATRA
Here's just some info on one of those massive shrimp farms (one of 23000 ha and another of 16000) in East Sumatra, Indonesia:
- 18,000 0.2 ha plastic lined ponds in production. Farm
labor = 9,000 men.
- Expansion of 3,000 ponds (0.2 ha each) per year for the next 14 years.
- Total use of 4 million m3 of water/day (9% water exchange/pond/day...?)
- Consumption of 60,000 tons of feed/year
- Farm controls approx. 3% of world shrimp market, expects to control 10% in 14 years.
