The long sandy and rocky coast of Nha Trang with deep blue water is inherently most suitable for marine fisheries and aquaculture in Vietnam. Production and nursing of Penaeus monodon post larvae, are predominant aquaculture activities in Nha Trang, which is home to 400 hatcheries producing 1 billion PL annually. The PL are the major source of supply to growout farms in the Mekong Delta. The seed quality and efficiency of production systems in this area determine the fate of the shrimp farming business in the whole country. The nursing processes involving 150 farmers and 1000 ponds are crucial to ensure seed quality for stocking in growout ponds in the whole country. Detailed investigation on the nursery systems and their socio-economic significance would be a worthwhile endeavor.
