OYSTER AND CLAM SEED AVAILABLE IN NEW ENGLAND, USA
For those interested in a new source for some American oyster (and clam) seed in New England, a new shellfish hatchery in its second year in Maine has a price list for 1998 seed.
Pemaquid Oyster Company's Shellfish Hatchery was founded in 1997 with the goal of providing the highest quality disease free oyster and seed clams available.
Our hatchery is located at the head of Muscongus Bay in Bremen, Maine, USA. Once the seed leaves our hatchery, we grow the seed in nursery sites along mid-coast Maine in upwellers and floating tray nurseries.
Smaller size hard clams (M. mercenaria) and oysters (C. virginica) are generally available from May thru July, while larger seed is available in late summer or early spring (overwintered seed from prior year).
