ADVANCED TECHNIQUES IN MARINE FINFISH AQUACULTURE

This 2-week intensive finfish aquaculture course covers the principles and practices of maturation, spawning, larval rearing, nursery and grow-out techniques of several commercially important coastal, reef, pelagic, demersal and bait fish species. A field trip to Key West, Florida will provide the participants with hands-on experience with broodstock capture, transportation, handling and spawning techniques. Flounder (Paralichthys sp.) and snapper (Lutjanus sp.) will be used to demonstrate these techniques. Other topics include production of live feeds, larval husbandry, fish hatchery management, fundamentals of nutrition, bioenergetics, grow out methods and disease prevention and control.
