SHRIMP VIRUS MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

The Joint Subcommittee on Aquaculture (JSA) will hold a shrimp virus management workshop in New Orleans, Louisiana, July 28-29, 1998. The purpose of the workshop is to utilize all of the data and input gathered from the June 1996 Shrimp Pathogen Workshop, the Report of the JSA Shrimp Virus Work Group from June 1997, the Stakeholders Meetings held in the summer of 1997, and the Expert Workshop held in January 1998 to develop Management/Options for managing the threat of shrimp viruses to cultured and wild stocks of shrimp in the Gulf of Mexico and Southeastern U.S. Atlantic Waters. The meeting will be structured with case studies drawing on the experiences of Mexico and the States of South Carolina, Texas and Florida, in managing the threat of shrimp viruses in their respective jurisdiction. Four stakeholder breakout groups will be structured around conservation, aquaculture, the processing industry, and wild caught stocks. Management options will be developed with the input from stakeholder working groups.

The meeting will be held at the Radisson Inn New Orleans Airport and is an open workshop. To register for the meeting provide your name, affiliation, address, phone/fax numbers, and email address to Cheryl Noble, Gulf States Marine Fisheries Commission, by FAX at 228-875-6604 or email at dmd@gsmfc.org. There is no registration fee.
