FISH HEALTH MANAGEMENT IN MEDITERRANEAN MARICULTURE

Objectives:

Mediterranean mariculture is a fast growing industry which is being threatened by an increase of pathological symptoms. Fish health management helps to prevent the occurrence of these pathologies and reduce their incidence. This workshop is designed to meet the requirements of people involved in Mediterranean mariculture

Course Outline :

Disease and control:

- Fish disease interpredation

- Main pathologies in Mediterranean species

- Sampling strategies and procedures for disease diagnosis

- Treatment procedures

Prevention of disease:

- Vaccination, immunostimulants, probiotics

- Hygiene practice

- Cleaning and disinfection

- Hygiene procedures in hatcheries

- Hygiene procedures in ongrowing units

Practical Sessions:

- Dissection, sample collection and preparation

- Preliminary analysis and antibiogram

- Histopathology-image analysis practicals

- Site visits (hatchery and ongrowing units)
