ADVANCED TECHNIQUES IN MARINE FINFISH AQUACULTURE

The Aquaculture Center for Training, Education and Demonstration located at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, Inc. Ft. Pierce, Florida, USA is offering Advanced Techniques in Marine Finfish Aquaculture.

Instructor: Daniel Benetti.
Ph.D. enrollment is limited to 12 participants. This 2-week intensive finfish aquaculture course covers the principles and practices of maturation, spawning, larval rearing, nursery and grow-out techniques of several commercially important coastal, reef, pelagic, demersal and bait fish species. Field trips to fishing locations will provide the participants with hands-on experience with broodstock capture, transportation, handling and spawning techniques. This winter course will focus on flounder (Paralichthys sp.). Species such a grouper, snappers, red drum and sea trout may also be used to demonstrate culture techniques.
Other topics include production of live feeds, larval husbandry, fish
hatchery management, fundamentals of nutrition, bioenergetics, grow-out methods, disease prevention and control, and environmental assessment.
