AQUA 2000

Responsible Aquaculture Development in the New Millennium including World Aquaculture 2000

& Aquaculture Europe 2000, the annual international conference & exposition of EAS and WAS

May 2-6, 2000, Nice, France

The central theme of "AQUA 2000" will be "Responsible aquaculture in the new millennium". Principal sessions on elements of this theme will run throughout the conference, highlighted by plenary papers from invited international speakers. These will be complemented by concurrent sessions with relevant technical and non-technical papers to provide a full-spectrum coverage of the interests and concerns of aquaculturists.

Following its successful management of the technical conference in Kyoto, Japan 1976, FAO has been invited to take a major role in the organization of the central session.

Against this broad spectrum of topics, each backed by personal opinions, practical experiences, and technical facts, the organizers intend that the conference participants will be very active in the formulation of recommendations and declaration for the future evolution of the industry compatible with the responsibilities to meet changing times.

The theme of responsible aquaculture is a demanding challenge for the conference, but it offers great scope for everyone in the industry, whether producer or professional, manufacturer or administrator, to make their voices heard. Consequently the conference is being planned for over 3000 participants and over 200 trade-show exhibitors. In spite of the 30-month lead time, it is imperative that everyone interested in this landmark conference commits themselves now. It is the opportunity to speak your mind about the future, enhance your scientific or technical knowledge, or display your products and experiences in the global marketplace. Young professionals and students are also encouraged to participate, as the organisers are giving special emphasis to those who will have the responsibility of carrying aquaculture into the future.
The beginning of the third millennium in the year 2000 will no doubt encourage many organizations to celebrate the occasion with meetings of all types, including aquaculture. AQUA 2000 will certainly be the most significant both in terms of content and scale. Both WAS and EAS have a wealth of experience in organizing aquaculture conferences and exhibitions, with a loyal following of satisfied participants and exhibitors. AQUA 2000 will incorporate the 31st annual meeting of WAS and it has become the norm for WAS conferences and exhibitions to have several thousand participants and more than 200 stands. AQUA 2000 will be controlled by steering and program committees, appointed jointly by EAS and WAS, and managed by the societies' professional conference organisers.
