QUESTION:
Can anyone supply me with the correct concentrations for use of
iodophore for uses such as dip baths for nets, washing tanks,
disinfecting floors, cleaning other materials, etc. I've heard of 1
part in 30 in the past but I can't confirm where I heard the
information.

COMMENTS 1:
According to the OIE International Aquatic Animal Health Code summary on disinfection (which summarises the use of a number of disinfectants, iodophors should be used at the following rates, whether for eggs, hands, tanks or smooth surfaces etc.:
a) greater than 200 mg iodine/ litre for a few seconds, or
b) 100 mg iodine/litre for 10 minutes, or
c) 25 mg iodine/litre for several hours
(the same source also specifies the additional requirements for safe
disinfection of eggs)

COMMENTS 2:
According to the "Policies and Procedures for Columbia Basin Anadromous Salmonid Hatcheries", Integrated Hatchery Operations Team (IHOT) January 1995, to disinfect equipment such as fish pumps, nets, egg sorters, boots, raingear, etc use 200 ppm iodophor solution for 10 minutes.

COMMENTS 3:
Typical dose for equipment and hard surface disinfection is about 250 ppm for 1-5 minutes. The dilution depends upon the product used. For a 1% available iodine product, this is a 1:40 dilution. Egg disinfection is another issue for another time.
