QUESTION:
Does anybody have experience with Pen Shell larvae or other floating larvae in the hatchery?
Pen Shell (Callo de Hacha) larvae tend to float on the surface resulting in large mortalities. This has been a stumbling block in hatchery production. I would appreciate any comments, insights or contacts related to rearing floating larvae. I understand there is a large hatchery in China producing Pen Shell seed on a large scale, does anybody have information on this hatchery?

COMMENTS 1:
The hatchery run by the state of Sonora in Bahia Kino, Mexico has produced callo (Atrina maura) juveniles in the past. They have a developed a specific technique for reducing larval mortalities in the stages in which the larvae are buoyant. Perhaps they will share that technique with you.
