5TH SYMPOSIUM ON AQUACULTURE IN CENTRAL AMERICA
August 18-20, 1999, San Pedro Sula, Honduras
The symposium will feature aquaculture tours, a trade show and a program on tilapia and shrimp farming. It's sponsored by the Aquaculture Association of Honduras (ANDAH), the Latin American Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society, and, new this year, the Pond Dynamics Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program (a multi-university program in the USA). Program: The program will cover all aspects of shrimp and tilapia
farming. The following presentations are already on the program.

Dr. Roger Doyle--Managing tilapia broodstock for onfarm genetic
improvement
Mr. Robins McIntosh--Development of an intensive, environmentally
friendly, sustainable shrimp farm
Dr. James Brock--Some observations and comments on the application of the in situ and dot blot gene probes for monitoring IHHNV
Dr. George Pigott--A look at fish and shellfish processing technology
Ms. Barbee Tucker--Advances in feed ingredient technology
Whitespot: Program chairman Dr. Bartholomew Green, an Auburn University (USA) researcher, says the program will emphasize shrimp whitespot disease, including invited speakers and a round table discussion
Alberto Zelaya, executive director of ANDAH (the Honduran Aquaculture Association), says the conference will be the first chance for everyone in Central America to compare whitespot results between the dry season (December-April) and the wet season (May-November).
