NEW DISCUSSION LIST ABOUT BRINE SHRIMP

An international discussion list called " artemia-l " has been created. This list is not moderated; it is owned by the Laboratory of Aquaculture & Artemia Reference Center of the University of Gent, Belgium (Prof. P. Sorgeloos), with the cooperation of Prof. T. Abatzopoulos (Department of Genetics, University of Thessaloniki, Greece), Prof. J. Beardmore (School of Biological Sciences, University of Swansea, Wales), Prof. J. Clegg (Section of Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of California, Davis, USA), Prof. G. Criel (Department of Anatomy, Embryology and Histology, University
of Gent, Belgium), Prof. G. Gajardo (Laboratory of Genetics and Aquaculture, Universidad de los Lagos, Osorno, Chile), within the framework of the International Study of Artemia (ISA). Technical management is provided by SparkList (http://www.sparklist.com).

Purpose :
The target audience of this list are people working with brine shrimp in the field of molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, genetics,
ecotoxicology, taxonomy, ecology, biogeography, strain characterisation, aquaculture nutrition, Artemia pond production etc.
In a recent meeting the above ISA members agreed that the existing
electronic discussion fora are insufficiently serving the interests of the
above mentioned research fields, dealing with brine shrimp Artemia. People mainly interested in the use of Artemia for the aquarium are using Brine-L, while various topics of aquaculture applications of brine shrimp are covered by numerous and busy aquaculture-related lists (Aqua-L, Crust-L, Shellfish-L etc.) Of course any aquarium-keeper or aquaculturist is warmly welcomed to join artemia-l as well !
