NEW GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN AQUACULTURE (HEALTH MANAGEMENT)

The University of Queensland, Australia

A new Graduate Certificate in Aquaculture (Health Management) will be offered at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, from July to October 2000. The course is aimed at university graduates in science and veterinary science, or students with other postsecondary study who wish to specialise in health maintenance of animals in Aquaculture.
The Certificate will cover prevention, diagnosis and treatment of
infectious diseases of prawns, molluscs and fish, and will feature
lectures by key international experts on how to solve disease problems in warmwater and tropical aquaculture in Australia and SE Asia.
The course will be structured around hatchery and growout issues. Topics include the biology of infectious agents, enhancement of resistance, immunity, vaccination, epidemiology, business plans and generic health management.
Emphasis in practical sessions will be on standardisation of diagnostic
methods and will include PCR, DNA sequencing, antibody probes, and in situ hybridisation.
