NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN HATCHERIES

QUESTION:

I was wondering if the list's members that deal with hatcheries could share an idea of the numbers of employees that their respective hatcheries have in relation to installed capacity ( i.e. 30 full-time employees, plus 10 part-timers for a 20 million per month hatchery with 140 tons of larval rearing volume).

My fish hatchery:
12 FTE producing about 20 million small fish per year (guppies, zebrafish, etc). With 110 tons in 1 ton tanks with about 6 m3/min of high performance water treatment (90% ammonia oxidation) and pure O2 systems, both fresh and saltwater (my guppies are saltwater).

COMMENTS 2:

We have 41 full timers and 10 part timers; using your concept of "full time equivalents" the latter equate to about 5 full-timers, so my total is 46 full time equivalents (FTE). Our nominal capacity is 100 million PLs per month, but lately we've been producing about 120. We have 42
larval rearing tanks at 16 tons each (working volume), for a total 672 tonnes. Evidently we have to use labor efficiently because of the high cost of labor compared to, say, Latin America. We could boil all this down to two indices:
a) FTE / million PLs per month capacity. We can call this the EPM. In our case = 46/100 = 0.46
b) FTE / larval rearing tonnage. We can call this the EPT. In our case = 46/672 = 0.068

COMMENTS 4:

We run a hatchery that has a production of 30 million pl's per month in
which we have one manager, two supervisors, 3 technical operators and 13 full time workers. Also we use 10 occasional personal for shipments of PL's; normally this people costs us as 2 FTE. I didn't include administrative staff because this one is shared with our farm.
All this numbers brings us a total of FTE=21
Our EPM = 21/30 = 0.7
And our EPT = 21/336 = 0.0625
