Summary:

This paper contains a compilation of studies made by the authors and of other researchers who have been working with Mexican Artemia populations. It shows the distribution of Artemia in Mexico, the ecological characteristics of each population and biometrical data on cysts and nauplii stages. Until now, 12 localities have been found: three in inland waters, one on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, one on the Coast of the Caribbean, and seven on the Pacific coast and the Gulf of California. Due to the diversity of the habitats in Mexico more studies of Artemia populations are needed to discover their distribution and biological behaviour with respect to their ecosystems. This information will be useful for the aquaculture industry, which is growing in Mexico.
