MARIE CURIE TRAINING SITE
Training opportunity for EU PhD students
The University of Aberdeen and Marine Laboratory Aberdeen are
offering postgraduate research training in Sustainable Exploitation and
Management of Living Marine Resources: A Holistic Approach (SEMLMAR),
funded by the EC Marie Curie Fellowship programme, over the period
September 2000-August 2004.
Training is offered in a range of research techniques drawn from the
four broad areas, encompassing the biological, physical, economic
and social sciences: (a) Fisheries and fishery biology, (b) Aquaculture
and fish health, (c) Marine environment and ecology, (d) marine economics
and social sciences. The overall aim of the research is to provide a
holistic approach aimed at maintaining economically efficient fisheries
and aquaculture industries, while preserving the sustainability and
diversity of ecosystems. The intention will be to provide training and
research activities tailored to the specific needs of individuals and
drawn on the exceptionally wide pool of expertise available at Aberdeen
including biologists, population dynamicists, geneticists, ecologists,
statisticians, economists and social scientists.
