QUESTION:

We would like to filter 250 m3/h of incoming seawater (< 15 mg/l of SS) to 1 micron.

Does anyone have some experience of filtering such big quantity of seawater to 1 micron.

COMMENTS 1:

Properly designed sand filters can remove much of the material down to that size. For the remaining small percentage, the only real option I know of is cartridge filters. Bag filters might work if designed well, but typically bag filters end up allowing some small fraction of material to bypass.

It will be tough to try to do what you want without spending a small fortune.

COMMENTS 2:

I have 3 units of RomiPure Ultra filtration units built by KOCH Membrane Systems.  Each unit consists of 12 each 5 inch x 48 inch cartridges that will filter down to 0.02 micron.  These units new cost +/-$76,000.00 per twelve cartridges and I have them available at a considerably less cost.  However, the three units could conceivably filter 50,000 liters/hour, not near what you are requiring but maybe you could find a need for these units.
