Announcing a New Special Issue of AQUACULTURE

Advanced Biotechnology in  Hatchery Production

Guest Editors: C. -S. Lee and P.J. O’Brian,

The Oceanic Institute, Waimanalo, Hawaii, USA

This special issue of Aquaculture is the proceedings of the workshop, “Advanced Biotechnology in Hatchery Production,” held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 6-9 December 1999.  Eminent experts from the East and the West were invited to participate and present papers at this workshop.  This special issue is a valuable source of information on: 1) current progress and zootechniques of larviculture technology in Asia, Europe, and the USA; 2) live feed production technology and issues; 3) the status of inert feed development; and 4) interactions between fish larvae and microorganisms.  In the pages following the workshop papers, conclusions formed by the participants on future research needs for controlling larviculture, recommendations to the industry for ways to increase fry production, and use of live and inert feeds to the best advantage are included.  This publication will be of great interest and value to researchers, teaching faculty, and the aquaculture industry.
