II INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON LIVE-BEARING FISHES
March 19-22, 2002, Queretaro, Qro., Mexico
Goals:
The symposium is conceived to present timely reviews
of the literature on live-bearing fish and poikilothermic vertebrates, to
detail ongoing, present research, and to generate directions for future
research. As such, the symposium has been divided into themes, topics
pertaining to reproduction, comparative and functional morpholgy, genetics,
biogeography, systematics, aquaculture, and conservation. It is acknowledged
that three species of endemic Mexican goodeids are extinct in the wild and
are maintained only in aquaria, and the global concern of threatened species
and extinction of species is a symposium focus. The symposium is to provide
a venue to bring together researchers and graduate students studying
live-bearing fish with the hope and expectation that new collaborations will
be forged, new and exciting knowledge will be generated, and student theses
will be generated.
