Construction
to get underway in Spain for France Turbot, Paris
France: France Turbot's Spanish subsidiary - set to be built this year -
will be called 'Al Rogal', meaning juvenile turbot in Spanish.
"We are building a 12,000 square metre hatchery in Galice to service
our Spanish customers," MD Didier Leclercq told IntraFish, "The
unit will be modern and therefore much more practical than our 10 year old
site here in France."
With an ergonomic layout, the site has been designed with the hindsight of
10 years of experience in juvenile turbot farming.
"As well as producing smolt, the new unit will give us the extra
facilities we need to carry out more research into this field, it will give
us more commercial weight and our purchasing power will in fact we
multiplied by two," added Mr Leclercq.
France Turbot have already built up the brood stock which will kick start
the new hatchery. "We have forecast output at 6 million juveniles per
year, within three years. Production should be underway by 2003," he
said.
Optimal output figures, however, depend on the workforce and France Turbot
have a team of 40 people to train.
