QUESTION:

I would like to know the natural productivity of various sites in kg/hectare/year/ of saltpans, salty lakes of Artemia by distinguishing biomass and cysts. Could you supply me with data or with bibliographical references to this subject?

I work with a Tunisian researcher on the stimulation by mineral fertilization of microalgae-Artemia in saltworks in Tunisia.

COMMENTS 1 :

Are you referring to salt lakes or to salt ponds?  Artemia naturally (now) occurs in both and there are infinite numbers of criteria that will determine production capabilities.  The Artemia Reference Center at the University of Ghent, Belgium will have the most available literature on this subject.

Please, enter to www.red-arpe.cl and go into "Grupos de trabajo".  In this window you find "contribuciones de expertos". Click in "Artemia y su cultivo en el Perú".  You can download the document completely and will find your inquiring.

COMMENTS 3:

Sorry to let you know that there are not much data available in the literature; huge variation in Artemia production as a function of phytoplankton productivity; biomass harvests from 10 to 100s of kg (wet weight) per ha per month, cyst production up to 10s of kg (dry weight) per ha per month. Of course much higher yields can be achieved in fertilized systems.
