Aquaculture Europe 2004
"Biotechnologies for Quality"
Barcelona,
Spain
October 20-23, 2004
Organised by the European
Aquaculture Society (EAS) in cooperation with the European Society of Marine
Biotechnology (ESMB)
Food quality and safety is a
high priority in Europe and worldwide. Within this priority, aquaculture
must play its role in providing safe, high-quality, health-promoting seafood
through safer and environmentally friendly production methods, based upon
scientific advances in plant and animal science and biotechnologies,
including the application of genomics.
An open debate on recent advances in different biotechnologies and their
impact on the improvement and guarantee of seafood quality will be a useful
tool for the aquaculture sector to increase knowledge, exchange ideas and
draw conclusions on the challenges required for the present and future of
aquaculture.
This European and international meeting will bring together participants
from as many as 40 countries to address the key issues and discuss some of
the most advanced scientific results and technological tools. Aquaculture
Europe 2004 will be organised through plenary thematic sessions, parallel
sessions, poster sessions and workshops. Although emphasis will be given
through the plenary sessions to "Biotechnologies for Quality",
other challenges for aquaculture development will also be approached during
parallel sessions.
Preliminary session topics include:
Aquaculture Europe 2004 will also be the forum for
workshops designed to communicate the current status and encourage
interactive discussion on future perspectives within a mainly industrial
audience, following the recent successful experience of previous EAS
meetings.
