SIMPLE MARINE ALGAE FERTILIZER

QUESTION:

We have been using the standard fertilization regime for our microalgae cultures of Isochrysis and Chaetoceros in the oyster hatchery. I would like to try using local fertilizer ingredients to mix up a suitable replacement for the F/2 fertilizer that we have been purchasing. At the moment, I'm less concerned with optimizing the media fertility levels as I am with the cost of the fertilizer.

Does anyone have a simple recipe using local ingredients such as 10-10-10, urea or Miracle-Gro for growing marine microalgae?

COMMENTS 1:

We have successfully been using a product called AquasolTM (HorticoTM Pty Ltd, Australia) to grow these algal species. It is a soluble fertiliser with a N:P:K ratio of 23:4:18. Also need to add sodium meta-silicate and iron chelate for diatoms
