NEW AQUATT PROJECT - Student Workshop 2004

AquaTT, partially funded by DG Fisheries, is
co-ordinating an innovative event for students of aquaculture. The workshop
steering committee includes AquaTT, Heighway Events (Fish Farming
International), Aqualex Multimedia Consortium and University of Gent,
bringing together a wealth of experience in student mobility, provision of
education and training, e-learning and events management.
The Student Workshop will run in conjunction with the
Aquaculture International 2004 Glasgow event 19-21st May, thereby
enhancing the impact and scope of the students’ learning and communication
experience. The event will host
MSc. students, leading European scientists and industry players. Short
presentations will be delivered and participants will engage in discussions
on themes relevant to current and future aquaculture practices and research.
The workshop will compliment the students’ current studies and each
participant will receive a workshop manual for future reference.
HORIZONTAL THEMES: Overview of the Sector
Presentations on European
development Policy, Food Safety Issues in the production and
processing of aquaculture products, Ethical Production and Research -
Responsibilities of the industry, Socio-Economic
effect of aquaculture, Consumer attitudes, trends and political factors.
COMPLIMENTARY THEMES: Acquisition of added value
competencies
Presentations on Excellence in
scientific Papers/Presentations, Excellence in Oral Presentations, Sourcing
information and Networking
PRACTICAL TEAMWORK EXERCISE: “The Island”
Participants will split into teams (chaired by a mentor) and complete a
practical interactive module demonstrating the relationship between various
stakeholders in aquaculture.
EXCURSION
A one day visit to Scottish
aquaculture installations.
