PREFURAN/FURAZOLIDONE SUBSTITUTION IN SHRIMP HATCHERIES

QUESTION:

What could be substituted for Prefuran and Furazolidone when these two are unavailable in the market?

COMMENTS 1:

You can totally eliminate antibiotics in hatchery replacing them with Bacillus probiotics. We have done a complete hatchery run using only probiotics.

COMMENTS 2:

In my experiences, use of Prefuran and Furazolidone are needless. Prefuran can be preferred as the last curative tool. Readily, first use of Prefuran  is like using an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile for hitting just a neighbour country.

Regular sun drying of rearing tanks, frequent dryouts (thrice a year), and USE OF SODIUM SULFAMONOMETHOXINE on a prophylactic dose will be fine. A real activator.

Please remember that once addicted to Prefuran usage even as a prophylactic treatment, then curative doses must be higher. Above all, the hatchery will then be meeting a slow suicide unless something more stronger than Prefuran emerges in the next decade.

COMMENTS 3:

We have been working since 1999 without antibiotics using low levels of probiotics.
