QUESTION:
I would be interested to know if there are any algae
(diatom) replacement larval diets for P. monodon larval rearing in RAS
hatcheries.

COMMENTS 1:
The AquaBioTech Group has its R&D facility based
on the island of Malta (Central Mediterranean) and has been working with
alternative feeds and algae for shrimp culture. They have been looking
at low cost algae concentrates and the effects on growth, survival and
quality as well as Artemia replacement (reduction) feeds. They have
also been independently testing feeds for a number of international feed
companies and I am sure that they will be able to give you some very good
information. I would suggest that you contact Shane Hunter or Naresh
Podugu on info@aquabt.com for more
information.
I believe that some trials in the UK have worked on semisulcatus, whilst
others in Cyprus were focused on japonicus. In Malta I think that they
are about to start work on vannamei and monodon.
