COMMERCIAL PROBIOTIC PRODUCTS

QUESTION:

I am designing a research project to evaluate the use of commercially available probiotics in a warm water marine fish hatchery.  Can anyone recommend companies that produce readily available products for use in larval cultures, Artemia and rotifer cultures?

COMMENTS 1:

Dr. David Moriarty of Australia has a company that sells probiotics for
aquaculture. I had used his product to control vibriosis in shrimp larvae.
Here are the contact details:

COMMENTS 2:

A similar trial has been suggested in Australia but the proposal has not yet found funding. In our facility we are trailing two products from Australian suppliers, Biosuper Concentrate from Biotec Restorations (product imported from the US) and ProBio Plus from Aquasonic (product imported from Ireland). Not sure how you can go about getting the contact details for the manufacturers, I can send you the details for the Oz distributors. Both products claim to be effective in warm/cold and freshwater/marine water, a concept that I am very skeptical about. Both products have had some effect in the systems we have added them to, unfortunately not all the effects have been good in the short term such as a marked reduction in bio filter activity. I hope your work will be able to take some of the guesswork out of this.
