QUESTION:

Is anyone having information on hatcheries located in Africa & the Gulf region: season of operation, price range of seed, any other related information?

I need the following details to make a thorough analysis of the problem.

  1. Source of seawater – open seawater / bore well (inter tidal zone)?
  2. What filtration system do you have? Do you have rapid sand filter or slow sand filter, with or without charcoal?
  3. What is the type of disinfecting system you follow for the seawater? Chlorination/Dechlorination with sodium thiosulphate, UV sterilization, ozonation etc.
  4. Can you give us an idea on physico-chemical parameters of water (salinity, pH, temperature, etc.)?
  5. What is the source of broodstock (wild / pond reared / low saline area (backwater)?
  6. Weight of female broodstock?
  7. How long do you hold them in the broodstock tank?
  8. What type of feeds do you use for broodstock (fresh, frozen, dry)?
  9. What does the mixed algae contain, I mean, algal species and their density?
  10. What is the light intensity (LUX) in larval rearing tanks or do you maintain complete darkness in LRT?
  11. Do you use any other microparticulate and microencapsulate feeds?
  12. Did you check for vibrio or luminous bacteria?
  13. Regarding our molting product (Y-Organ) we use 1 ml per ton of seawater, we do not require freshwater at all. Mix 1 m in 5 lts of seawater and apply daily.

From Sharjah, I can supply any items upon confirmed purchase order with advance payment.

In the Gulf area, I find few finfish hatcheries (sea bream, grouper) and also some shrimp hatcheries in Saudi Arabia. I am not clear about the numbers.
