Now you have selected your substrate and efficiently constructed your biofilter, you can start filling your biofilter with water. To optimise the water you are going to use, you'll have to check the following parameters first...

1.1.2 Parameter 1: Temperature

A first important parameter is the temperature of the water that you will use to start up your biofilter. The temperature will have a major influence on the activity of the nitrifying bacteria, that are, as mentioned before, an essential element in the working of the biofilter.
