The feeding rate is a physiological function of the growth stage which is associated with body size. Feeding is relatively highest during the early developmental stages when somatic growth is greatest. The feedng rate exponentially decreases as the shrimp grows and as it approaches maturity. During the first days after stocking, for instance, growth exceeds 15% per day as compared to only 1-2 during the final growth stages. Feeding rates used during the culture are adjusted according to the average bodyweight of the shrimp(Cruz, 1991). |
