One of the most critical aspects in growout feeding management is the feeding ration. When feeding levels used are above optimum, feeds are not efficiently utilized and feed conversion ratio (FCR) increases. Pond deterioration sets in rapidly when feeding is excessive, leading to retarded growth, low survival, diseases and poor crop quality. When feeding is below optimum, growth is slow. Growth ceases, when feed intake drops to a point where the nutrients available are sufficient only for maintenance. Under this condition, FCR shoots up and cannibalism becomes a problem. Like any biological function, the feed demand of shrimps is predisposed to changes in biotic and abiotic conditions. Actual feeding rates in the pond constantly fluctuate (Cruz, 1991).
