A COMPARISON OF ELEMENTAL AND FATTY ACID RATIOS

Muller-Navarra, D.

Abstract:

The study was undertaken to gain insight into relationships between elements and biochemical constituents of herbivorous zooplankton and its food.

Therefore, the elemental and fatty acid composition were analysed for Daphnia and Eudiaptomus in Schohsee over one growing season. The composition of these major herbivorous zooplankter were compared to the composition of their sestonic food.

A comparison of Daphnia ratios and its food fed cultured algae should reveal how representative these cultures are for the situation in the field.
