Abstract:
The formulation of marine starter diets to coincide with the live Artemia feeding stage poses nutritional and economical problems. In this study several commercial diets were examined as potential first-feeding diets for Striped Wolffish, Anarhichas lupus. Diets fed to the fish over a 60 day period were comparable for gross energy and EPA/DHA ratios but the fish fed Diets 2 and 3 were significantly larger in wet weight than Diet 1. Survival rates were also better for these diets (Diet 1 = 41%, Diet 2 = 49%, Diet 3 = 57%). Proximate composition, fatty acids, lipid classes, amino acids and other dietary factors were examined for criteria for selection of a commercial diet for wolffish. Significant differences in fatty acids and amino acids were also observed.
