| Ideally, the final hatchery site should be selected through a thorough site reconnaissance and selection process. There are many important and potentially critical site selection parameters including water quality, soil characteristics, weather, economics, and social, legal, logistical, and political factors. Unfortunately, in many projects there is no site selection process since the site is often fixed for various reasons. A common reason is that the site is already owned or controlled by the project's owners, family or friends, or by the governmental agency sponsoring the project. Construction and operation on unsuitable sites is the most common reason for poor hatchery performance and failure (Colt & Huguenin, 1992). | ||
